One of the most important aspects in working for yourself is that you must make time your friend. It can be much more difficult than one thinks to stay at home and actually get something productive done.

To avoid getting caught in a rut it is best to figure out what time of day is your fresh time. This is the time you should dedicate yourself to work. If you are a night owl, do not get up at 6 AM and attempt to cram all your work in. You will procrastinate and most likely do a horrid job. Wait till later when you feel great and go for it then.

If you are forcing yourself to work, you need to freshen up and get a better prospective. This also means that you should attempt to work when you will be distracted the least. The more you get distracted, the less you will get done and the longer it will take.

Set Your Business Hours

When you are working for yourself you will want to set business hours. These hours are when you do not take visitors, personal calls, or do non-business related work. It is best to decide what you need to do each day for your work and then see how long it will take to do each task.

Once you know how long each task is, then you can set aside that many hours per day to get all your work done. Do not forget that seeking work and answering e-mail is also very important and qualifies as time spent working.

When people call or drop by, make the visit as short as possible and even mention that you are working and cannot speak. You must stay focused. If you are not serious about working for yourself then no one else will be either. While it is easy to get distracted, you can be kind and tell people that you will have to talk with them at a later time.
